4 Ideas for your Memorial Day Party!

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner and we'll all be celebrating the official (or un-official if you like to hold out for that summer solstice) start of summer!  Here are a couple of ideas to help you prep for an amazing Memorial Day Party!

1. Let the Cocktails Flow!

As everyone knows, it's important be on top of your cocktail game on holidays like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, St. Patty's Day, Christmas... OK on every holiday. Memorial Day is a great day to whip up a signature cocktail, but allowing guests to make their own cocktails along side a berry bar can also be fun!  Remember that since it's the start of summer, keep your cocktails and mixers light and fresh! Beers for the boys are fine, but ladies are getting ready to be in a swimsuit for the next 3 months. Here are a couple Cocktail Recipes I like for Memorial Day...

Blueberry Lemonade (recipe from Damn Delicious)
for my touch on the Blueberry Lemonade, add 1 part vodka!
The Paloma (recipe from Drizzle & Dip)
Strawberry Gin Smash (recipe from the kitchn)

2. Set the Menu

Let's stay classy this memorial day and skip the burgers and hot dogs.  If you're feeling extra cute, then pack a picnic for your day at the beach (here or budget version here). And don't worry, a "classier" meal doesn't necessarily mean harder to prepare, think about it... A) I am providing you with the perfect menu, B) Prepping kebabs takes just as long as getting hamburger fare ready, and C) Your guests will love you!

3. Don't Forget to Satisfy those Sweet Teeth

Memorial Day and the Fourth of July are the perfect holidays to get a little red, white and blue inspired!  Carry on your kebab them baking some brownies mixed with strawberries, blueberries and marshmallows.  The pie bars above not be red, white and blue, but the ingredients sure are!

Apple Blueberry Pie Bars (from Sally's Baking Addiction)

4. Decorate.

Show your Mem Day party goers how creative you are through your decor.

If you'd like to keep it simple and classic, forget the American Flags.  My favorite is the table setting on the bottom right - a cream table cloth, white hydrangeas, red charger, white plate and blue napkin. So simple and chic. If you'd like to get a bit more festive, try a red, white and blue flower arrangement - begin with a clear vase filled with water, add the red and white flowers of your choice and finish with a couple drops of blue food coloring.  If you're loving the vintage feel of the bar set-up above, check out Lia Griffith's amazing Fourth of July setup here.
